Chris Thomson
The story of the world around us. That is how singer-songwriter Chris Thomson describes his songs. He sings about small things, like his children playing in the garden, as well as the bigger issues that keep us awake at night. Warm, personal. Sometimes joyfull, sometimes intimate and touching.
Before becoming a singer-songwriter, Chris has long been a member of the Celtic music scene. He started his musical career in 1997 as a drummer in a Scottish Pipeband. As a drum sergeant, many years he gave drum instructions, wrote scores and performed with several Pipebands in small and large venues across Belgium and abroad.
In 2012 Chris wrote the show 'The Dawning of The Day', where he combined pipe music, dance and folk. Meanwhile he learned to play the Bodhran and increasingly started picking up the instrument he played since he was a kid: the guitar.
It was with the former group 'Clan Thomson Celtic Gathering' that Chris focussed on singing folk songs. When the group was terminated, he decided to continue as a solo artist.
Since 2020, Chris teamed up with his two brothers to bring their old band 'Two Square Feet' back to life. Today Two Square Feet is featured on several recordings of Chris.
As a side track, Chris works together with Koen Vlerick, Flemish poet, on a Dutch repertoire.
Het verhaal van de wereld rondom ons. Zo beschrijft singer-songwriter Chris Thomson zijn nummers. Hij zingt over de kleine dingen, zoals zijn spelende kinderen in de tuin, en over de grotere thema's die ons 's nachts wakker houden. Warm, persoonlijk. Soms vrolijk, soms ingetogen en ontroerend.
Vooraleer Chris een singer-songwriter werd, vertoefde hij reeds heel wat jaren in de Keltische muziekwereld. Hij startte zijn muzikale carrière in 1997 als drummer in een Schotse Pipeband. Vele jaren gaf hij als drum sergeant drumles, schreef hij scores en trad hij met verschillende Pipebands op in kleine en grote zalen in België en het buitenland.
In 2012 schreef Chris de show 'The Dawning of The Day', waar hij pipemuziek, dans en folk samen bracht. Intussen leerde hij Bodhran spelen en greep hij steeds meer naar het instrument dat hij reeds als kind bespeelde: de gitaar.
Het was met de toenmalige 'Clan Thomson Celtic Gathering' dat Chris de nadruk begon te leggen op het brengen van folk liederen. Toen de Gathering ontbonden werd, besliste hij dan ook om solo verder te gaan.
Sinds 2020 heeft Chris samen met zijn twee broers hun oude groep 'Two Square Feet' nieuw leven ingeblazen. Vandaag werkt Two Square Feet mee aan verschillende opnames van Chris.
Als nevenproject werkt Chris samen met Koen Vlerick, Vlaamse dichter, aan een Nederlandstalig repertoire.
